Six Flags Great America
Gurnee Illinois
I have been to Six Flags Great America in Gurnee Illinois several times as a teenager. I also went twice with my husband. We went together once when we were dating and once when we were married, before we had kids. We are hopefully going to be taking our 3 young kids, in the near future. Six Flags has many rides that suit all ages and a waterpark that was built about two to three years ago. The price of admission includes everything. There are hotels in the surrounding area, if you are looking to make an extended stay out of your trip. There is also lots of shopping and restaurants in the area.
Six Flags Great America in Gurnee Illinois has thrill rides, family rides, kids rides, exciting roller coasters, entertainment, and the waterpark. When arriving at Great America, the first thing you will see are the huge roller coasters. The most well known coasters are Batman, where you sit swing-style with your feel hanging free and the track is above your head, Iron Wolf, which is a standing roller coaster, Superan, where you are in a flying position, the demon, which is considered the best "starter" roller coaster, and the American Eagle, a huge and ancient wooden roller coaster. For calmer family rides there is the two story carousel, Logger's run log ride, roaring rapids raft ride, the scenic railway train, the yankee clipper boat ride that is much like the log ride, and the whizzer, an intermediate/beginner roller coaster that is good for kids and non-thrill seeking adults. There are three themed areas set aside for small children and their families. One of these areas is in the waterpark section. There is also a new Wiggles themed area. There is a Big Red Cars ride, Bouncin with Wags area, Dorothy's Rosy Tea Cups ride, and a S.S. Feathersword Playship. There is also a looney tunes themed area for kids
The Waterpark section of Six Flags in 10,000 square feet. There is a family raft ride, 2 interactive play areas, tube slides, wave pool, body slides, speed slides, a tornado ride, racing slides where you slide on mats head first, and what our family calls the toliet bowl ride, where you slide into a round bowl and spin around until you drop out the bottom.

Six Flags Great America also provides entertainment throughout the day. When you get tired, it is nice to take a break and take in a show. There are shows, parades, musical acts, and live-action stunt shows. In the Wiggles children's area there is also a Get Ready To Wiggle Show with the Wiggles characters, such as Dorothy the Dinosaur, Wags the Dog, and Henry the Octopus. Throughout the park there are also carnival style game booths, where you can pay to play and try to win prizes.
There are lots of places throughout the park to purchase food when you get hungary. You can find just about anything. There is the typical kinds of foods you would expect to find at fairs or carnivals and much more, like salads, pizza, fried chicken, and sandwiches. There is also an ice cream parlor, New Orleans style cafe, an all you can eat buffet, Johnny Rockets, a pub & grub, a Mooseburger Lodge, a PaPa John's pizza, and Ben & Jerry's.
Inside the park there is 6 stores to shop for themed clothing, toys, and souveniors. There is also a sweet shop.
