If you are looking for a great small town in upper-central Wisconsin, then Waupaca would be a great idea for that much needed Northwoods vacation or getaway. Waupaca is a smaller community that is charming and wonderful with the greatest people. It is a treasure that not many people have heard about. Waupaca is situated between Stevens Point Wisconsin, which is 30 minutes away, and Appleton Wisconsin, which is 45 minutes away. Waupaca is also an hour west of Green Bay. Summertime is by far the best time of year in Waupaca. The days of summer are like gold to the local residents. There are several lodging options in the town. There are three hotels. There is the Best Western that is very nice and has an indoor waterpark, conference center and offers continental breakfast. There is also a Comfort Suites, which is by the Fox Fire golf course. This hotel also has a very nice indoor pool with kid's pool and jacuzzi. It also offers continental breakfast. The third hotel is the Village Inn. This is a little more of a value hotel and it has an indoor pool. Waupaca Wisconsin is also home to the Chain Of Lakes. Actually, in Waupaca County there is 22 lakes. It is next to JR's Bar and grill. The petting zoo is open Memorial Day to Labor Day and always has a selection of baby animals for children to pet or hold. Waupaca also has a dog park. There is also a place called the Red Mill, which is on Crystal Road. It is an old house/museum, which has a waterwheel on the side. You can walk behind the Red Mill building and see the beautiful landscaping and walk the quaint paths and over the covered bridge. There is also a small outdoor chapel where some people go to get married. Next to the Red Mill is a cute, small park that is bordered by a horseshoe creek. It is very pretty and peaceful there . Sometimes in the summer you see people floating in tubes along the stream there. If you are looking to some canoeing or tubing down the river, Dings Docks offers rentals and tours where they drop you off and pick you up at the end of our floating excursion. There are actually a good amount of restaurants to choose, if you are looking to dine out. There are several great locally owned establishments that I recommend. In the summer the most popular is The Harbor. It is situated on the shore of the Chain Of Lakes on Highway QQ. You can eat inside or outside on the deck overlooking the water. There are also two bar areas. A couple times a week they have bands playing there. There are docks in front of the Harbor where you can park your boat and come ashore to eat or you can pull up to the dock and a waitress will come out to you. At the Harbor there is also an outside ice cream stand, a playground, and a large paddle wheel boat ride. You can buy tickets to go on a ride on this double decker paddle wheel boat and do some sight seeing around the Chain Of Lakes. Another popular restaurant by the Chain Of Lakes is the Wheel House .
