Shabbona Lake State Park, IL

Shabbona Lake State Park
Illiniois
During our first two years of marriage, my husband and I camped a couple times at Shabbona Lake State Park in Illinois. This state park is 1,550 acres and is 30 minutes south of DeKalb Illinois. The lake is a man made lake. Shabbona Lake State Park was a decent place to camp or hangout for the day, but it is out in the middle of nowhere. The campground has 150 electrical sites and there are restrooms with showers that were kept pretty clean. Each campsite comes with a picnic table and fire ring. There is also two rustic camping cabins available that have two rooms in them and electrical heat, but no water or bathrooms. Throughout the park there is 3 picnic areas, 8 miles of trails, and great fishing. During the winter you can cross country ski and snowmobile. Hunting is allowed during hunting season. Shabbona Lake State Park also has a restaurant/concession area that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner during the summer season. There is also a boat rental facility, boat launch, and a bait and tackle facility. The negative aspect of this state park is that swimming is not allowed. There is not a beach.
