Antigua Bay/Howard Johnson WI Dells

Antigua Bay & Howard Johnson

Wisconsin Dells

We have stayed twice at this hotel in the Wisconsin Dells. The first time we stayed there for a weekend getaway when our oldest daughter was a year old. The second time we had to stay there, because other family members were staying there for a wedding we had to attend in the Wisconsin Dells area. The outside of this hotel and the lobby are decent and it appears to be an ok hotel from the outside view. Once you get to your room you realize that the rooms and hallways are older, outdated, and not that clean. Both times we were there, the hotel was pretty crowded and there were more people hanging out in the hallways than you usually see at hotels. I thought that this hotel attracted lesser quality of people. Some of the people there made me want to watch my kids closer and make sure that my hotel room door was double locked. The Antigua Bay/Howard Johnson Hotel contains an indoor and outdoor waterpark. The indoor waterpark is much smaller than the other bigger mega resorts in the Wisconsin Dells. It appears to not be as well kept and as clean as other resorts in the area. The waterpark is limited and contains one waterslide, 1 kiddie frog slide, a hot tub, a couple of fountains, and some floating statues for kids to crawl around and sit on top of in the water. The pool is zero depth entry. There is limited seating in the pool area and there is a small bar/snack bar. There is also a small outdoor waterpark. It has a larger shallow kiddie pool with a medium kiddie slide, and another pool with a small waterslide. The outdoor pool area is older, outdated, and there was much chipping paint. Both waterparks in the hotel are not even closely comparable to the larger, more popular resorts in the Wisconsin Dells. One gross moment we had in the waterpark was when my husband suddenly spotted poop in the pool. At first he thought he was seeing things, but upon taking a closer look he found it was. He quickly told my daughter and I to get out of the water. He pointed it out to the weird looking lifeguards, and they looked completely disgusted. Another couple moms came over to us and asked if that is what they thought it was. They closed the pool to blast it with chemicals for a portion of the day. The Antigua Bay hotel also has a conference center and a gift shop in the lobby. An good thing about the hotel is that it contains the Green Mill restaurant. They have great pizza and Italian food. The decor of the restaurant is nice and they have some nice fish tanks for the kids to look at while waiting for their food. I don't recommend the Antigua Bay/Howard Johnson in the Wisconsin Dells. It is a value hotel that is not worth it for the money that you would save by staying there. Spend the extra money to stay at the bigger resorts in the Wisconsin Dells, such as the Great Wolf Lodge, The Wilderness, or The Kalahari. Only venture into the Antigua Bay/Howard Johnsons to go to the Green Mill restaurant.
