Wilderness Resort In Wisconsin Dells

Wilderness Resort In The Wisconsin Dells

Our family of five regularly visit the Wisconsin Dells several times a year. We have stayed at just about every one of the larger resorts and have experienced about all the activities that the Dells have to offer. The Wilderness Resort is the largest of the mega resorts with indoor and outdoor waterparks. The Wilderness is an expansive place that is centered around the Northern woods theme of Wisconsin. When reserving accommodations, you can choose between standard lodge rooms and suites, villas and condos with 2 or 3 bedrooms, or full size cabins with 4 to 5 bedrooms. When our family goes to the Wilderness, we usually get a double queen sofa lodge room. This is usually in the main area of the resort and it is a large room with 2 beds, a pull out sofa, table & chairs, TV (sometimes 2 TV's,) fridge, microwave, and the sink and vanity area outside the bathroom that has a shower/tub and toilet. Weekend rates you will expect to pay in the $200's range per night. If you go during the week the rates are lower. Many people gasp at the prices, but remember that the price also includes waterpark passes for your whole family. All your entertainment is included. Once you park your car, you will never have to leave the resort. The Wilderness has huge mega indoor waterparks. There are three indoor waterpark areas. The newest is the Wild Waterdome that has a clear dome ceiling that allows you to tan all year long. The biggest wave pool is here along with 2 family raft rides and a children's play area. The second indoor waterpark is Klondike Kavern. It has tube slides, a lazy river, Jacuzzis, and the huge Hurricane water raft ride that is just crazy for older kids and adults. There is also a large children's play area that was in Goldmine Mountain. It is currently under total renovation as is opening in mid December of 2007. It is going to be renamed Goldenmine Mountain and looks like it is just going to be a basic kids water play area with smaller slides, squirt guns, and a dumping bucket. The third indoor waterpark is the Wild West. It has a family raft ride, a smaller wave pool surrounded by water cannons that people can squirt you with, a baby play area, and another children's play area with smaller slides, squirting accessories, and a dump bucket. If you visit the Wilderness Resort in summer, you also have access to the huge amount of outdoor waterpark areas. The main outdoor waterpark area is 150,000 square feet of play for all ages. There is so much to do. The newer outdoor area is Lost World Adventure. It has a lazy river system that has twists, rapids, an uphill conveyor belt, and a tube slide. There is also a good size Fossil Falls play area for all ages and the Halley's Commet Racers where you can race against your friends down speed slides. The Waterpark areas, indoors and out, is so massive that you will go from area to area and hardly do anything twice. The place is also so large, that the lines for the rides are not long at all. There are pleny of chairs all over and you can also rent private cabanas. If your family gets waterlogged, the Wilderness also has a dry play area and arcade. The dry play area is really nice. It is called Dodge'Em City. It has a 4 story dry, interactive play area with foam ball blasters, crawling spaces, and slides. There is also a toddler crawl zone for little kids. In Dodge'Em City there are places to purchase food such as coffee, ice cream, continental breakfast items, cocktails, beer, and several TV's to watch your sporting events. Inside Dodge'Em City there is also the Northern Lights Arcade. There are lots of games for all ages where kids can win tickets for prizes. For dining options, you have a few. I highly recommend Sorento's which is owned by the Wilderness corporation. The restaurant is a short drive away and well worth it. Great pizza and Italian food. Go about 4pm and it's not crowded yet, or you can make a reservation. Sorento's also delivers to the resort. Next to the Wilderness there is Field's, which is a fancier restaurant also owned by the Wilderness. Inside the Wilderness there is the Wild Canyon Cafe that serves a breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffet. There are a couple pub & grub type bars, bar areas, and concession stand areas throughout the waterparks to buy food at. I recommend bringing food with to have in your room. You will see everyone carrying in coolers to their rooms. Bring drinks, snacks, breakfast stuff, and lunch items such as stuff to make sandwiches with. You will save money. Once we spent over $75 to eat at the concession stand in the Wild Waterdome. That was ridiculous. In the standard rooms you have a fridge and microwave, so it is easy to go back to your room for lunch or grab snacks whenever you want. If you have a condo, villa, or cabin you will have a full kitchen, so you have even more options. We have taken a crock pot with us before and had premade barbecue for dinner. If you are with several families, you can all bring food to share and eat together. Other things that the Wilderness Resort offers is snow tubing in the winter, a fitness center, golf, and a spa. Throughout the resort you will also find hair braiding and temporary tattoos. A side note, directly across the street is a quick care medical center. I have used it when my younger daughter got sick, and it was a nice facility. If you are traveling to the Wisconsin Dells in the summer and want to try some of the areas other activities, I recommend the Duck rides, the Upper Dells Boat Ride, Mount Olympus Go Carts, the deer park, Noah's Ark Waterpark, and any of the large miniature golf places. If you are looking for good restaurants outside the Wilderness Resort, I recommend Paul Bunyan's, Pedro's, and Moose Jaw. I highly recommend the Wilderness Resort in the Wisconsin Dells for all ages. You will have a fun packed time.
