Minocqua Wisconsin

Vacationing In Minocqua Wisconsin
If you are looking to vacation in the Northwoods of Wisconcin, Minocqua is one of the well known places to travel. It is popular among the people of Illinois and is about a 6 to 7 hour drive from the Chicago area. We live 2 -2 1/2 hours south of Minocqua, so we usually visit there twice every summer. Minocqua is a great Northwoods vacation area to spend a week long vacation or have a weekend getaway. The town is great for any age person and is a great family destination. Summer is of course the busiest time of year, with July being the most populated time of year. People visit Minocqua for the many lakes, watersports, fishing, winter snowmobiling, hunting, and just relaxation.
You can find lodging such as cabins, condo, resorts, hotels, private home rentals and campgrounds. We have experienced quite a few of the different accommodations throughout Minocqua. I recommend the cabins at Nitschke's Northern Resort, which is ideally located on Lake Minocqua. It is a short walk into town on the historic Bearskin Trail. Each cabin at Nitchke's is privately owned, so the condition of the cabins are kept up very well. Nitchke's also has a nice beach and playground area for kids. They are also very accommodating if you have a wave runner or your own boat. The Beacons, located next door to Nitschke's, is also nice. There are a few cabin choices and many condos, which are nice for shorter stays. Beacons has an indoor pool, which is nice in winter or in the spring time when the weather is more unpredictable. For hotels, we have stayed at the Americinn. It offers a free continental breakfast, has an indoor pool, offers parking for trailers, and is in a great location downtown, right across the street from Torpy Park. Torpy Park has a wonderful and huge playground and also a public beach. At the public beach, boaters are also allowed to beach their boats and personal watercrafts if you want to come off the lake and come ashore to the park. There is also a larger resort hotel with an indoor waterpark called The Waters. This is also a nice place, although do not expect it to be like the huge mega waterpark resorts in the Wisconsin Dellls. The Waters Resort also allows day passes to use their indoor waterpark area. This is convenient to know of on when looking for a rainy day activity. There are lots of lodging options in Minocqua and the surrounding towns such as Eagle River, Arbor Vitae, Hazelhurst and so on. Contact the Minocqua Area Chamber Of Commerce and they will send you lots of info.

There is lots to do in the Minocqua area if you need to break away from the cabin, swimming, and boating. There are enough attractions that you can do an activity or two everyday during a week long vacation. I recommend the Scherer's Lumberjack Show, the local water ski show, Northwoods Children's Museum in Eagle River, Settlers Mill for mini golf, and Holiday Acres for horseback riding. I highly recommend going to the Wildwood Wildlife Park. It is a very nice zoo with lots of animals to view and pet and many deer to interact with. Don't miss the experience of feeding the black bears bear juice. In Minocqua there is also the Lake Of The Torches Casino golf courses, hiking, biking, a nice downtown with lots of shops, and winter sports such as skiing. There are a couple grocery stores for buying food, a movie theatre with several screens, and a Walmart.
There are plenty of dining options in Minocqua. Our family's favorites are Bosaki's, Paul Bunyans (a lumberjack camp style dining experience where the breakfasts are very popular), and Spangs Italian Restaurant. We also like Monical Pizza, Minocqua Brewing Company, Minocqua Dawg Haus, Saloons, Minocqua Popcorn Company, and the Little Swiss Village that specializes in Swedish food and pancakes. Get a seat by the window to watch the chipmunks outside playing in the chipmunk village. There are also a selection of chain establishments, such as, Cousins Subs, Culvers, McDonalds, Dairy Queen, and Country Kitchen. Minocqua is a great place for a family vacation. Our family has a special spot in our heart for the Northwoods of Wisconsin.
