Illinois State Fair

Illinois State Fair
Springfield Illinois
My husband and I spent the day at the Illinois State Fair, back in the day when we were still dating. The Illinois State Fair is basically an average fair, but on a bigger scale. The Illinois State Fair takes place for 10 days in the beginning to middle of August. It is located in Springfield Illinois at the Illinois Fairgrounds. The fairgrounds are located 2 miles from I-55's Sangamon exit. Admission for adults and 13 years and older is $3. Kids 12 and younger are free and seniors 60 years and older are $2. You will need to pay to park and that is usually about $7. Bring a good amount of money with you to spend at the numerous food booths and to purchase tickets for rides, shows, and the other countless stuff you may buy. There are stroller and wheelchair rentals. Definitely bring your stroller if you have a small child. It is not only a good place for your child to rest, but is a convenient place to stash all your belongings. There is lots to do and see at the Illinois State Fair. There is a sky ride, carnival rides, agricultural and livestock exhibits, entertainment, horse races and shows, beer tents, tractor pulls, automotive races, concerts, and kids activities. Before you go to the fair, check out the schedule of events before you go, so that you can plan ahead which day and time is the best for you to visit. When we went we to the fair we grabbed a hotel room near the Springfield area to stay at overnight. I would recommend researching the area ahead of time and making a reservation, whether it is a hotel or campground, so that you are guaranteed a place to stay. Lastly, make sure that you dress for the weather. It is usually hot in Illinois in August. Also don't forget your sunscreen and drink plenty of water.
